DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall guidance of the Programme Manager, Communications and Media Relations, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

(a) Monitor international conferences and other events and identify at which ones the IPCC could hold workshops or presentations of its products;

(b) Work with IPCC focal points or their designated points of contact, IPCC Bureau members, or other stakeholders, and the Programme Manager to scope and develop outreach events in line with the IPCC outreach programme;

(c) Work with the local hosts to ensure that the necessary paperwork is done in a timely fashion to launch the implementation of the event;

(d) Work with the local hosts to discuss the programme of the event, and work with other local partners as needed;

(e) Consult with the local hosts and partners on speakers and delegates to be invited by the IPCC to take part in the outreach event;

(f) Work with the Working Group Technical Support Units to ensure contact with authors as potential speakers;

(g) Identify speakers that are available and liaise with them on their travel plans;

(h) Work with the Programme Manager and other IPCC Secretariat staff to ensure that the travel of speakers and funded participants is organized in a timely fashion in line with IPCC Procedures;

(i) Ensure that the relevant IPCC publications and materials are available at the outreach event;

(j) Liaise with IPCC speakers on the programme of the event;

(k) Work with the local hosts and partners to ensure media coverage of the event;

(l) Work with the local host and partners to ensure civil society participation and social media coverage of the event;

(m) Carry out a pre-visit for the event when necessary (as agreed with the Programme Manager and Secretary of the IPCC) to ensure that the location and technical facilities are suitable and prepared;

(n) Attend the event as needed (as agreed with the Programme Manager and Secretary of the IPCC) to assist with social media coverage, photography, video and live-streaming, interviews, and other communications activities and general organization;

(o) Provide feedback to the Programme Manager on events attended, with a view to improving future events;

(p) Carry out any necessary financial reporting or similar after the event in consultation with the Programme Manager;

(q) Carry out any other duties related to the outreach programme as required;

(r) Carry out any other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelors degree or equivalent in journalism, international relations, communication or a closely related field. A Master degree or equivalent would be an advantage.

Experience
At least five years of national and international progressively responsible experience in communications and outreach activities in an international organization. Experience in organizing international conferences relating to environmental science or policy, including working on media communications at such events.

Other requirements
Firm understanding of the IPCC, the needs of its stakeholders (including policymakers, the scientific community, public sector officials, the business community, civil society organizations and the media) and of IPCC processes. Experience with media relations and conference planning. Sense of responsibility, maturity of judgment, initiative and originality of ideas. Good analytical, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to foster team spirit, international cooperation and to work in a multicultural environment.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English or French and a good working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES

Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 64121

Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 53220 (in addition to the net base salary)
