DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Senior Scientific Coordinator, Climate Coordination Division, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
(a) Assist in the organization of WMO scientific and technical contributions to climate-related international policy frameworks such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, and support mechanisms such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC);
(b) Assist in drafting, synthesizing and submitting climate policy-related documents and annual questionnaires to UNFCCC, SDGs, Sendai Framework and IPCC;
(c) Monitor the implementation of the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) and contribute to coherence between GFCS activities and related climate policy processes;
(d) Assist in organizing, supporting and documenting the activities of the WMO Commission for Climatology (CCl);
(e) Assist in framing and documenting the activities of the World Climate Programme and its sub-programmes and co-sponsored programmes;
(f) Assist in external climate coordination activities at the inter-agency level with other partners;
(g) Support the Senior Scientific Coordinator in preparing meetings of the Steering Committee for Climate Activities, reporting on meeting outcomes, and in undertaking follow-up activities;
(h) Assist in the preparation of the World Climate Programme and CCl-related documents for WMO governing bodies;
(i) Carry out other relevant duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
|
Education
Master's degree or equivalent from a recognized university or technical institute in international development or environmental policy, geography, climatology, meteorology, environmental sciences, engineering, or a closely related field.
|
Experience
At least three years of combined national and international progressively responsible experience in climate policy analysis and/or quality assurance/quality management and business process engineering.
|
Other requirements
Sense of responsibility, maturity of judgement, initiative, originality of ideas and an ability to work independently and in a team. Proven ability to write reports and documents. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office applications. Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal and analytical skills. Some knowledge of the activities of WMO or other United Nations agencies. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and foster team spirit.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of other official language(s) of the Organization would be an advantage.
(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)

Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
|

Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 50377 |
Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 40654 (in addition to the net base salary) |
