Under the supervision of the Chief, Multi-hazard Early Warning Services Division, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
1. Support the development of services to support MHEWS and DRR Decision-making and as a key contribution to the Sendai Framework in the following areas:
a. Hazard/Risk assessment in supporting the work of the Working Group on Hazard / Risk modelling;
b. Humanitarian Preparedness and Response in working the work of inter-commission ad hoc Working Group on Meteorological, Hydrological and Climate Services for Humanitarian Preparedness and Response;
c. Disaster Risk Financing in in supporting the work of the Working Group on Disaster Risk Financing.
2. Support documentation of new good practices and development of the operational guidelines on Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems Operational Processes and supporting the work of the Working Group on Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems;
3. Assist with development and implementation of WMO DRR and adaptation capacity development in national/regional/global projects;
4. Assist with development and production of guidance material for the Executive Council Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction (EC WG/DRR); and
5. Provide other support, as needed, to DRR Division;
6. Carry out other related duties, if required.

Bachelor of Science or equivalent from a recognized university or technical institute in meteorology, physics or engineering. A Master of Science or equivalent is an advantage.

1 to 2 years of experience in the provision or coordination of warning services

Other requirements
Ability to effectively and efficiently work with Microsoft Office applications. Good communication skills, as well as desire and ability to work efficiently in an environment with diverse cultural backgrounds.

Excellent knowledge of English (spoken and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the WMO Secretariat would be an advantage. Candidates must have achieved an iBT TOEFL score of 107 / TEPS score of 800 or New TEPS of 452.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
The Secretary-General may appoint a candidate at a grade below the advertised grade of the post, with the possibility of promotion to that grade within three years of appointment, subject to satisfactory appraisal of performance.
Possibility of renewal up to a total of two years subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of six months which can be extended if necessary.
