DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall supervision of the Director, Development and Regional Activities (DRA) Department and the direct supervision of the WMO Representative for the South-West Pacific, the incumbent will be mainly responsible for supporting the implementation of project(s) under the Climate Risk and Early Warning Systems (CREWS) initiative and for supporting the climate risk early warning system work more broadly. These projects are related to strengthening early warning systems and the production and delivery of weather and climate services for water, energy, food, health and disaster risk reduction (DRR) in Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs). The incumbent will perform the following duties:

(a) Assist in administering projects related to the CREWS initiative;

(b) Provide secretariat, preparatory and organizational support for various travel, meetings and events related to these projects;

(c) Assist in coordinating project activities, including monitoring and evaluation;

(d) Assist in the archiving, drafting and management of project documents and drafting progress report for reporting to the project steering committee;

(e) Assist in the preparation of project proposals for CREWS and other initiatives;

(f) Assist in building consortia to implement projects;

(g) Support liaison with relevant donors and partners;

(h) Carry out other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in civil engineering, hydrology, geography, earth sciences, meteorology, climatology or a closely related field. A Master's of Science would be an advantage.

Experience
At least three years of combined national and international progressively responsible experience in a project management support role. Knowledge of disaster risk reduction, weather, climate and water-related international programmes; experience in organizing meetings, drafting and reviewing of technical reports and project documents. Experience in the Pacific Islands region is preferred.

Other requirements
Sense of responsibility, detail-oriented, maturity of judgement, initiative, ability to work independently and in a team. Proven ability to write reports and documents and give presentations. Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal and analytical skills. Some knowledge of the activities of WMO or other United Nations agencies and the donor's landscape. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and foster diversity and team spirit.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
The position is limited to the duration of the project, which is 36 months, and is funded from extrabudgetary resources. Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES

Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 50377

Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 22418 (in addition to the net base salary)
