DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Director, Climate and Water (CLW) Department, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting and developing projects within the Department. Projects are related to flood forecasting and warning and the production and delivery of climate services for water, energy, food, health and disaster risk reduction. The incumbent will perform the following duties:

(a) Assist in administering a number of projects e.g., the World Hydrological Cycle Observing System (WHYCOS) Programme and its Observing System components, Quality Management Framework (QMF), the Flash Flood Guidance System (FFGS), the Associated Programme on Flood Management (APFM); projects related to the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS); and projects related to the Climate Risk Early Warning Systems (CREWS) initiative;

(b) Provide backstopping for ongoing projects;

(c) Provide secretariat, preparatory and organizational support for various travel, meetings and events;

(d) Assist in the implementation of projects;

(e) Assist in the archiving and management of project documents;

(f) Assist in the preparation of project proposals;

(g) Assist in building consortia to implement projects;

(h) Liaise with relevant donors and partners;

(i) Carry out other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in civil engineering, hydrology, physical geography, earth sciences, meteorology, climatology or a closely related field.

Experience
At least three years of combined national and international progressively responsible experience in a project support role. knowledge of water-related international programmes; experience in organizing meetings, drafting and reviewing of technical reports and project documents. Knowledge in data analysis and management, modelling and forecasting, and project management.

Other requirements
Sense of responsibility, maturity of judgement, initiative, originality of ideas and an ability to work independently and in a team. Proven ability to write reports and documents. Experience in computer programming is an asset. Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal and analytical skills. Some knowledge of the activities of WMO or other United Nations agencies. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and foster team spirit.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
The position is limited to 24 months with no expectation of renewal. Conversion to other type of appointment is not possible. Excellent performers may be recommended for future projects.
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES

Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 50377

Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 39445 (in addition to the net base salary)
