DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Chief of the Atmospheric Environment Research (AER) Division, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

(a) Provide technical support in the organization of the Integrated Global Greenhouse Gas Information System (IG3IS) Steering Committee, Science Team meetings and related IG3IS events;

(b) Provide assistance with the organization of the national consultations in the countries where IG3IS pilot or demonstration projects are planned to be undertaken;

(c) Prepare technical reports of the meetings;

(d) Assist with the development of the funding proposals for the new/ongoing IG3IS pilot projects;

(e) Communicate with the ongoing IG3IS pilot projects and assist in development of the status reports;

(f) Support the IG3IS webpage;

(g) Assist with the development of the IG3IS outreach materials and communication tools;

(h) Carry out other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor of Science or equivalent from a recognized university or technical institute in atmospheric or environmental sciences, environmental policy, geography, climatology, meteorology, engineering, or a closely related field. A Master's degree or equivalent would be an advantage.

Experience
At least three years of combined national and international progressively responsible experience in a project support role. Knowledge of greenhouse gases and atmospheric pollution international programmes; experience in organizing meetings, drafting and reviewing of technical reports and project proposals and related documents, and in supporting outreach activities.

Other requirements
Sense of responsibility, flexibility, maturity of judgement, initiative, originality of ideas and ability to work independently and in a team. Proven ability to write reports and documents. Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal and analytical skills. Some knowledge of the activities of WMO or other United Nations agencies. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and foster diversity and team spirit.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
This position is funded from extra-budgetary resources. Renewal or extension of the position depends on the availability of funds and satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of six months, which can be extended up to a maximum of one year.
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES

Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 50377

Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 37581 (in addition to the net base salary)
