DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Officer in charge of MCH, the incumbent will be responsible to:

1. Identify among the packages provided on the " CRAN Task View: Hydrological Data and Modeling" https://cran.r-project.org/web/views/Hydrology.html, those packages that could be integrated/connected to MCH/OpenCDMS.
2. Provide guidance with related material to design and develop/programme an open source based module for hydrology (especially: velocity estimation in river cross-sections using well recognized methods, generate rating curves from gauging measurements, ...)
3. Assist in the development of tutorials and training material (videos, pdf, ...) for the new modules, to be uploaded on the MCH/OpenCDMS platforms.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Graduate from a recognized university or technical institute with an initial degree (BSc) in hydrology, civil engineering, water resources management, physical geography or environmental studies or a related field with an orientation to applied hydrology and data collection and management.

Experience
Experience in developing analytical tools for hydrological data (using R is an asset). Familiarity with the use or development of training material and/or online tutorials.

Other requirements
Excellent knowledge of SQL (Structured Query Language) and R programming. Good analytical skill, meticulous approach to work. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster team spirit. Knowledge of Moodle (CMS) is an advantage.


Languages
Excellent knowledge of English or French (spoken and written). Knowledge of other UN official languages, especially Spanish, is an advantage.
