DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall guidance of the Director, Member Services and Development Department (D/MS) and under the direct supervision of the Head, Project Implementation Unit (H/PIU), the incumbent will perform the following duties:

(a) Support the planning and coordination of delegated projects on a day-to-day basis;

(b) Support Project Officers with the timely and on budget delivery of planned project activities, monitoring and reporting on the progress of implementation and liaising with (relevant persons) from the regional and/or national implementation teams;

(c) Liaise with relevant WMO Departments to obtain necessary inputs during project implementation and reporting; including financial reporting;

(d) Assist with communication between project partners and other relevant stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and coordination of project activities;

(e) Support the planning and organization of meetings, workshops and conferences by preparing supporting documents, coordinating with internal colleagues, and/or following up with partners;

(f) Carry out other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
A Master's degree or equivalent in international development, business management, climatology meteorology, hydrology, agro-meteorology or a closely related field.

Experience
A minimum of three years of combined national and international progressively responsible experience in project or programme management with development assistance projects or related area. At least two years of experience in project management and donor relations. Experience in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), climate services, Multi-hazard Early Warning Systems (MHEWS), capacity building, food security, natural resource aspects and climate information in decision-making. Knowledge of weather-, water-, climate-related activities of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and/or other United Nations agencies is highly desirable and would be an advantage.

Other requirements
Strong sense of responsibility, maturity of judgement, and initiative. Experience in writing and revising technical documents and reports. Good analytical and communication skills. Excellent written and oral English communication skills. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is desirable. Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
This position is funded from extra-budgetary resources. The appointment and its duration are limited to the duration of the specific project to which the applicant is engaged. This will generally be for not less than two years. Conversion to another type of appointment is not possible. Excellent performers may be recommended for future projects.
