DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, Global Cryosphere Watch, the intern would undertake the following duties:

Assist in the compilation of cryosphere information relevant to the activities of WMO and prepare communication materials (web-based, brochures, visuals, etc);
Assist in the compilation of relevant references to enable the development of impact-based indicators of change in the cryosphere and the available datasets.
Assist with the development and maintenance of Cryosphere and GCW webpages, on the WMO webpages.
Assist with the engagement of experts from different WMO activities on topic related to cryosphere, including data aspects, standardization, etc. as necessary.
Assist in preparing and presenting summaries of information and presentaitons, as assigned by the supervisor.
Perform additional tasks commensurate with the role of an intern in WMO as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor or equivalent university degree from a recognized university or technical institute in environmental sciences, meteorology, climatology, physics or engineering. Having completed or being enrolled in the last year in a similar Master's Programme of a recognized University would be an asset. Education in cryosphere sciences and related applications would be useful.

Experience
Desirable but not compulsory, related to the duties of the position.

Other requirements
Ability to effectively work with Microsoft Office applications and with internet editing applications;
Good communication skills;
Ability to edit and write technical documents;
Ability in any aspects of data processing would be an asset;
Ability to work efficiently in a multicultural environment.


Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (spoken and written).

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
