DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the primary supervision of the Media Officer, the intern will perform the following duties::

Organize the annual WMO calendar competition, which attracts hundreds of photo entries from all over the world. Ensure that this is regularly promoted on social media channels as part of WMO's outreach and engagement strategy. Catalogue all the entries and assist in selecting the shortlist of finalists.
Assist with the ongoing digitization of WMO photos (if COVID-19 office regulations permit)
Assist with weekly planning of social media content and editorial calendars from WMO departments, the WMO office in New York and regional offices, UN agencies and other institutional partners.
Assist in the creation of animations, video and digital content.
Identify opportunities to increase and improve social media content and reach, with a particular focus on Instagram. Maximize potential for more dynamic and innovative ways to target influences and younger audiences.
Help moderate social media platforms
Any other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor/ Master in a relevant field of study in Journalism, communications, digital media, or marketing or related fields. Students of international relations or related fields may also be considered for this internship.

Experience
UN organisation experience in communication would be an asset.

Other requirements
COMMUNICATION - Strong multimedia competencies and all-round visual and written communication skills.

TECHNICAL SKILLS - Experienced in using Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) and other communication tools including Powtoon.

TEAMWORK - Works collaboratively with colleagues in a multi-lingual, multi-cultural environment to achieve organizational goals; ability to act autonomously and using own initiative.

Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a commitment to sustainable development and the environment Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Be a self-starter.


Languages
English and French are the working languages of the WMO Secretariat in Geneva. There is particularly high demand for Spanish WMO web and social media content.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
