DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Developing a concept for the identification of user requirements for operational hydrology related to data and information is a joined effort of WMO and the Global Water Partnership (GWP). The advertised intern position will be based at WMO and focuses on the technical aspects of hydrological user requirements. A second intern position will be advertised by and based at GWP and focuses on the social and human science aspects of hydrological user requirements. The intern on the "Technical aspects of hydrological user requirements" will work in close collaborating with the intern that is based at GWP.

Tasks:

1. Baseline assessment
 Collect publications, activities and experiences in respect to user requirements from WMO and GWP, as well es from NMHSs, GCOS, UNESCO, FAO, WB, GEO, etc and from outside the hydro/climate/meteo field
 Provide a summary of the state of the art in research regarding the identification of user requirements (in hydrology and environmental sciences)
 Collection of use case: Provide positive and negative examples and gaps and needs of NHSs in the identification of user requirements
 Identify required multidisciplinary competences for user requirement

2. Development of a concept for the identification of user requirements
 Based on the outcomes of the baseline assessments in cooperation with WMO and GWP experts, development of a preliminary concept for the identification of user requirements

3. Testing and implementation of the preliminary concept
 Provide a plan on how the developed preliminary concept can be tested and implemented
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor degree; Master degree preferred

Experience
Background in hydrology or earth systems science/management or related fields.

Other requirements
Combination of solid knowledge about environmental issues including key players in the water sector and expertise in stakeholder analysis

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English.
