DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Head of the Services for Aviation Division, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

(a) Develop qualitative information, surveys etc. required for recurrent or ad-hoc assignments such as those associated with implementation, by Members, of quality management systems, cost recovery mechanisms and personnel competency frameworks in aeronautical meteorology;

(b) Coordinate relevant inputs from technical staff for papers and analytical studies on issues related to aeronautical meteorology and related fields such as disaster risk reduction and climate change;

(c) Logistical preparations, in coordination with other WMO departments as necessary, to ensure and enhance WMO's representation and partnerships at international, regional and national consultative meetings with other institutions dealing with aeronautical meteorology or related fields;

(d) Input to and/or proofing of speeches, presentations and reports to high-level meetings and other intergovernmental bodies, inter-agency or expert groups on issues relating to aeronautical meteorology;

(e) Organization of training seminars/workshops for national experts addressing aeronautical meteorology;

(f) Develop aeronautical meteorology capacity development project proposals in, for example, quality management, cost recovery and personnel competency, and then monitor and report on implementation by Members;

(g) Assist the governance of aeronautical meteorology through support to meetings/events of relevant WMO technical commissions and subsidiary bodies, consultative partner organizations (such as the International Civil Aviation Organization) and private sector entities;

(h) Outreach activities focused on enhancing WMO's role in aeronautical meteorology, for example through the promotion of WMO standards and recommended practices and the facilitation of training workshops, seminars or other outreach,

(i) Coordination of activities related to budget/funding and preparation of related documents/reports that focus on the delivery of aeronautical meteorology priority areas such as quality management, cost recovery and personnel competency;

(j) Carry out other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business administration, management, communications, economics and/or a humanities related field. An international relations and/or science-related degree would be an advantage.

Experience
A minimum of three years of national and international progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, communications, administration or related area. Demonstrated experience in assisting the management of projects and budgets, finalization of reports, drafting of documents, correspondence and communication material (including for web content).

Other requirements
Familiarity with the United Nations system in aviation and/or meteorology will be highly regarded. Maturity of judgement, initiative and tact. Excellent analytical, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES

Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 50377

Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 39093 (in addition to the net base salary)
