DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall guidance of the Head, Data and Information Management (H/DIM) Division, the incumbent will be part of a group of engineers building and operating web-based services to facilitate world-wide data and information exchange (see https://github.com/wmo-im). The incumbent will perform the following duties:
(a) Contribute to strengthen the DevOps capabilities to support various projects related to Python, Docker, and web-development.
(b) Contribute to the development, integration and change management of the WMO Member Platform. This involves applications in PHP (CakePHP, Drupal, Wordpress), Python (Flask/Django) using MySQL, Postgres and MSSQL databases.
(c) Support the Member Platform users with tools and training;
(d) Drafts inputs for technical documents and analytical studies on issues related to the Member platform;
(e) Formulates, identifies and analyses project proposals related to components of the Member Platform;
(f) Attends international, regional, and national meetings for consultations with stakeholders and experts dealing with the development and user requirements of the Member Platform;
(g) Prepares inputs for presentations by senior staff using data analytics and the Member Platform;
(h) Assists in the organization and servicing of expert group meetings seminars and missions as a member of a team.;
(i) Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities both internally and externally; and
(j) Carry out other relevant duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering or a closely related field. A Master's degree in computer science would be an advantage.

Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in software development and maintenance in the context of complex applications like those forming the Member platform.
|
Other requirements
Excellent analytical skills. Experience operating and building web portals. Fluency in python. Knowledge of databases and web storage (Mysql / postgres, S3 or similar). Experience with data-science libraries will be an advantage. Knowledge of web technology and cloud platforms (APIs, OAuth, AWS, MS Azure) and cloud stack (Docker, Kubernetes) will be an advantage. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.

Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 64121 |
Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 48860 (in addition to the net base salary) |
