DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Linguistic Services and Publishing (LSP) at World Meteorological Organization, under the direct supervision of Production Editor and in close coordination with the Linguistic Support Unit (LSU) and the Chinese linguist, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

1. Improve WMO CAT tool results in Chinese by pre-aligning publications in English and Chinese (other language pairs may be requested) and verifying the aligned segments, correcting them when needed;
2. Proofread and finalize documentation, correspondence, reports, publications, etc., prepared in Chinese, following established templates, guidelines and procedures;
3. Translate, when required, occasional session documents or correspondence from English into Chinese;
4. Verify texts received for accuracy, completeness and conformity with existing guidelines and procedures;
5. Bring to the attention of the author or editor concerned any substantive error or discrepancy requiring his or her intervention;
6. Participate, as a member of a team, in the production of miscellaneous documentation and publications, by preparing layout of the final product, using desktop publishing software, in the relevant language, for reproduction in hard copy and/or electronic dissemination;
7. Perform other functions developed under related workflow reviews and new Teams workflow process as needed;
8. Identify new terminology material and submit it for the consideration of the Chinese linguist;
9. Carry out other work of a similar nature as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Higher education degree (Bachelor or higher) in linguistics, translation, interpretation or a field closely allied to linguistic work.

Experience
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Thorough knowledge of publishing techniques and software (InDesign). Good knowledge of the latest online video-conferencing platforms. Good written and oral communication. Experience with CAT tools and document alignment.

Other requirements
Sense of responsibility, detail-oriented, initiative, ability to work in a team. Some knowledge of the activities of WMO or other United Nations agencies.

Languages
Chinese as a principal language. Excellent knowledge of English. Good knowledge of another WMO official language would be an advantage.
