DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, Global Cryosphere Watch the intern would undertake the following duties:
- Assist activities for identifying WMO relevant observations and cryosphere data (snow, glacier, permafrost, sea ice, etc.) from programmes operated by diverse organizations, and support engagements;
- Research and compile datasets (remote sensing and in-situ) and relevant scientific literature in support of defined GCW activities;
- Assist the preparation of recommendations for metadata and data representation (in the framework of WMO Integrated Observing System and the WMO Information System;
- Prepare graphics on recommended impact-based indicators of change in the cryosphere, using available data;
- Support expert meetings organized to deliver results of the GCW work plan;
- Assist with the development and maintenance of WMO Cryosphere and GCW webpages and the preparation of relevant communication materials (web-based, brochures, visuals, etc);
- Perform additional tasks commensurate with the role of an intern in WMO as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Master's degree from a recognized university or technical institute in environmental sciences, computer science, physics, engineering, and related fields. Enrolment in Ph D programme and/or education in cryosphere sciences and related applications would be assets.

Experience
Experience processing data for specific applications/projects.

Other requirements
Knowledge of and/or experience with the utilisation of data from observations (satellite remote sensing, in-situ), preferably cryospheric observations;
Knowledge and/or experience with data discovery, data formats, and current data access protocols;
Programming skills for data processing, e.g. Python, R, GIS, or equivalent, and for web applications;
Knowledge of cryospheric and/or related sciences and/or experience with relevant applications;
Experience creating illustrations would be an asset;
Good communication skills;
Ability to researching information and preparing technical documents;
Ability to work efficiently in a multicultural environment.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (spoken and written).
