DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Head, Climate Monitoring and Policy Services Division (H/CMP), the incumbent will perform the following duties:

(a) Support the preparation of WMO policy relevant climate science information and its incorporation in flagship climate policy products such as the global and regional state of climate reports and climate risk assessments for selected countries' Heads of State;
(b) Support the communication of climate science and climate risk information to inform climate policy processes at country, regional and global level;
(c) Support the organization of input from countries, regional and global data centers related to monitoring climate trends and extreme events and associated risks and impacts;
(d) Provide support for developing a web-based data collection for above mentioned information and provide data synthesis related to climate indicators, extreme events and their connection with SDGs and climate risks;
(e) Support the development of visual tools, such as digital based information and story maps, for enhancing the impact of climate information delivered for policy users, through WMO State of the Climate at regional and global level, the ongoing WMO decadal report in preparation and contributions to climate risk assessments for selected countries' Heads of State;
(f) Provide technical assistance for designing communication materials such as flyers, posters, web-based visual communication tools, for climate policy events, such as but not limited to UNFCCC SBSTA/COPs;
(g) Provide support for conducting meetings and training workshops on the regional state of the climate reports, in collaboration with the WMO Regional Offices;
(h) Support ongoing WMO efforts to develop prototypes for climate risk assessments for Heads of State as well as climate reports designed for the youth, in collaboration with Members, the UK COP26 Presidency, UNESCO, IPCC and other international entities;
(i) Carry out other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
A Master's degree or equivalent in climatology, meteorology, hydrology, agro-meteorology, international development, business management or a closely related field. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent may be accepted if accompanied by relevant experience.

Experience
Proven experience in data analysis and data science. Good experience in summarizing and communicating climate change information. Experience in developing and managing projects related to the above is highly desirable.



Other requirements
Experience with the United Nations system would be an advantage, in particular, IPCC process, UNFCCC Conference of Parties and United Nations' Sustainable Development agenda. Experience in modern web-based tools for data collection and visualization. Experience in writing technical reports, documents and correspondence. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES

Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 39401

Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 29433 (in addition to the net base salary)
