DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Head of Earth System Prediction Division (H/ESPD), the JPO would undertake the following duties:
 Maintain and improve the Web Portal for the designated Global Data-processing and Forecasting System (GDPFS) Centres;
 Supports the regional and national implementation of GDPFS and its core functions of operation weather and climate predictions;
 Assists in the designation of GDPFS Centres;
 Participates in maintaining and updating the Manual on GDPFS, the Guide to GDPFS and relevant Technical Documents;
 Contributes to the organization of workshops and the meetings of expert teams;
 In collaboration with other divisions/branches/departments, contributes to complement the Global Data-processing forecasting and Earth System Modelling and Prediction activities;
 Carry out the maintenance of two main websites: GDPFS and Emergency Response Activities;
 Support in developing implementation plan of Seamless GDPFS and identifying and implementing key pilot projects;
 Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Maters of Science or equivalent university degree from a recognized university or technical institute in meteorology, climatology, atmospheric sciences, oceanography, environment, physics, statistics or engineering

Experience
One to two years of experience in a reputed national/international organization in data analysis, weather/climate/environmental modelling, prediction/projection or allied areas.

Other requirements
Ability to effectively and efficiently work with Microsoft Office applications, ArcGIS and with internet editing applications. Ability to edit and write technical documents. Ability to work efficiently in a multicultural environment.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written).

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
Additional Information:
General requirements for candidates applying to the JPO vacancies funded by the Republic of Korea:
- Korean citizenship
- Fluency in English and Korean
- A certificate of English language proficiency: Applicants should submit a minimum of (1) IBT TOEFL score of 100 (or PBT TOEFL 600 and above) or (2) NEW TEPS score of 430 or (3) IELTS 7 or (4) TOEIC 900 (we do not accept TOEFL 'MyBest Scores')
- Be no older than 32 years of age as of 31 December 2022 (Born after 1 Jan 1990) (the maximum age limit for those who served in the military will be extended accordingly)
- Male applicants who fall under one of the following three items (a)~(c):
(a) completed the national military service
(b) who are exempted from the national military service
(c) to-be discharged from the military service in the year of the application.
