DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the the overall guidance of the Director of the Science and Innovation (D/SI) and the direct supervision of the Head of the World Weather Research Division (H/WWR), the incumbent will perform the following duties:
a) Support to the goals of the WMO strategic plan and the related plans of SI and WWRP by providing input to the WMO Annual Operating Plan and the SI department plans and related meetings;
b) Provide programmatic (WWRP) support to the implementation of the current and future WWRP Implementation Plan (IP) by working with the WWRP SSC, WWRP team members as well as the community experts - including organizing meetings and writing related reports;
c) Coordinate, support and manage some of the WWRP's Research Development Projects (RDP) and Forecast Development Projects (FDP) with the respective leaders, connecting to other WMO activities as needed, representing WWRP's goals;
d) Coordinate, support and promote the activities of some of the Working Groups of WWRP (including meeting organization and linking to other related activities in WMO), aligning with WWRP's goals. This can involve organizing of training seminars/workshops addressing the goals of the WWRP Implementation Plan;
e) Coordinate, promote and support some of the WWRP core projects (including the respective International Coordination Offices), until the end of their respective ten-yearterm, aligning with the WWRP IP;
f) Liaise and coordinate with the Technical Commissions, World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and the Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) relevant activities for closer collaboration in and with the SI Department;
g) Liaise and link with Member Services specifically regarding satellite-based nowcasting in developing countries in support of the Early Warning Early Action initiative led by WMO;
h) Prepare presentations on various topics to represent and promote the work of WWRP in internal and external meetings, representing WWRP when relevant;
i) Collaborate with, and support ,the SI Coordinator and cross-programme Officers, where relevant in such areas as resource mobilization, capacity development etc., to provide optimal support to departmental needs;
j) Carry out other relevant duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
|
Education
Master's degree or equivalent in atmospheric science or a related field with a focus on weather research. A Ph.D would be an advantage.
|
Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or a related area. Knowledge and experience in the field of research in weather forecasting, nowcasting and related data, modelling and engagement with users is required.
|
Other requirements
Ability to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate assigned programmes and projects. Ability to plan, organize and manage the work with minimum supervision. Ability to draft clear and succinct communication items, reports, documents and correspondence. Maturity of judgement, initiative and creativity. Excellent analytical, communication, team work and interpersonal skills. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Understanding and experience of the United Nations, including WMO programmes (specifically WWRP) and activities and international organization processes would be an advantage.Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit.

Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.

| SALARY AND ALLOWANCES |
Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 64121 |
Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 42769 (in addition to the net base salary) |
