DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall supervision of SO/ESM the intern will be engaged in the following duties:
- Support hydrological monitoring aspects of Infrastructure Commission of and Standing Committees and especially Joint Expert Team on Hydrological Monitoring (JET-HYDMON) and New Task Team EarthHydroNet (including aspects Hydro Data Policy, Global Basic Observation Network expansion for hydrology, Hydrological network design)
- Assist in World Hydrological Cycle Observing System projects in preparing and compiling materials, documentation, project (preparation) support
- Assist in reviewing and editing of technical documents and guidance materials with colleagues (in her/his level of expertise)
- Support in organising technical meetings and logistics, organize materials and folders
- Assist in preparing meeting documents including the reports
- Other relevant duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS
|
Education
Minimum requirement: Bachelor degree; Master's degree preferred. Educational background in natural sciences and knowledge in hydrology or water resources management.
|
Experience
Some working experience/knowledge in hydrological monitoring, data management and exchange, measurements, network design, technical regulations or data systems is an advantage
|
Other requirements
- Understanding the framework for water players and stakeholders, NMHS role
- Good communication and presenting skills
- Skilled user of standard MS software applications;
- Technical skills in hydrology (data analysis, measurement techniques, data systems) an advantage
- Ability to write/revise reports and organize meetings and contact experts
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and its specialized agencies such as WMO
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English is required. French, Knowledge of other WMO official languages is an advantage.
(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
