DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct management of the Chief of Communications and Partnerships and working closely with the web officer, social media officer and the designer the Strategic Communications Officer will:

(a) Communication, Advocacy and Fundraising implementation plan:
 Coordinate the development of the communication and advocacy pillar/component of the GEO post-2025 implementation plan;
 Establish and coordinate the GEO communication champions network;
 Provide support on establishing a GEO youth champions network.

(b) Media Relations
 Establish and maintain liaison with regional and international media houses and dissemination platforms;
 Produce topical articles, Op-Eds and other communication products;
 Identify outreach and media opportunities, write related press releases and media advisories as well as disseminate to broad and up-to-date mailing list;
 Track and promote media coverage of high impact/visibility activities.

(c) Publicity and External Communications
 Liaise with various stakeholders to ensure a coherent approach to GEO communication initiatives;
 Develop a living data base of target groups, relevant messages, channels and key products for effective visibility and impact of the GEO key activities;
 Widely disseminate news/content through the following channels: the website and social media accounts;
 Oversee the design, video-production and the development of various content/products;
 Catalogue and build an active audio-visual storage and library (press releases, articles, videos) containing all materials;
 Finalize and coordinate the dissemination of the GEO brand book;
 Ensure adherence by GEO community to the GEO brand book and visibility guidelines.

(d) Writing and editing
 Research and write content on a wide range of strategic issues/topic of concern to GEO, including speeches, newsletter emails, presentations and talking points.

(e) Campaigns
 Develop and implement targeted campaigns to support and deliver on GEO institutional objectives.

(f) Events planning and implementation
 Provide communication support to the organization and implementation of the GEO Symposium;
 Provide communication support to the organization and implementation of the GEO week 2025.

(g) Capacity development
 Organize and deliver workshops on the new GEO Brand Book.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
A Masters degree or equivalent in Communications, Journalism or closely-related field. A first-level university degree in combination with four additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience
At least seven years' experience translating complex content into simple and impactful communication outputs. Experience in the design and management of communication campaigns will constitute a solid advantage. Experience with working with top-tier media outlets will be considered a solid advantage. Experience working with youth for advocacy and communication campaigns desired. Experience in delivering creative events with high visibility impact highly desirable.

Other requirements
Advanced computer literacy skills and excellent writing, analytical and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment and to maintain effective working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. Ability to communicate easily and effectively, using various communication channels. Familiarity with environmental/climate issues and excellent analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to safeguard ethics and act with integrity.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of French and other official languages of WMO would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES

Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 77326

Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 62634 (in addition to the net base salary)
