DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Chief, Communications and Partnerships, GEO, the incumbent will perform the following duties/provide the following deliverables:

- Develop an immediate and long-term detailed implementation plan of fundraising activities to increase resources available for GEO, including specifically the GEO Secretariat Trust Fund and emerging projects. The fundraising target for 2024 is CHF 5 million;
- Develop recommendations for fundraising policies and guidelines for engaging the private sector and ensure that those adopted policies and guidelines are adhered to and implemented;
- Identify and research potential donors for GEO, and work with Secretariat team to develop relationships with potential donors;
- Write funding applications for various categories of donors (10 applications in one year);
- Ensure high quality ongoing communication to maintain and develop supportive relationships with potential and existing donors;
- Regularly report on fundraising outputs or the impact of specific fundraising initiatives;
- Keep up to date with trends in fundraising opportunities and best practice and recommend changes.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
A university degree in any of the following fields: Business Administration, Marketing, Fundraising or a related field is required.
Additional professional qualifications in fundraising and/or marketing and/or communications would be an asset.

Experience
minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in managing a resource mobilization or fundraising programme together with proven track record in driving income growth; Proven ability to contribute to effective long-term strategic fundraising plans and to implement clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies.

Other requirements
Demonstrated ability to identify and seize new fundraising opportunities, formulating new fundraising models.
Diplomatic negotiation, influencing and networking skills to establish and maintain trusted partnerships and to develop close and effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Excellent communications skills, verbal and written.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of WMO would be an advantage.

Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
Additional Information:
RENUMERATION: The consultant will be employed part time (three days per week), remote (but Geneva-based to attend in-office meetings) for 12 months for a total fee of CHF 72,000.

TRAVEL: Travel may be required as part of the consultant's duties and will be paid for by the GEO Secretariat
