DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall guidance of the Director of the Science and Innovation (D/SI) and the direct supervision of the Head of the World Weather Research Division (H/WWRD), the incumbent will perform the following duties:

a) Provide overall programmatic support to key World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) activities as directed by the Head of the WWR Division in support of the WWRP Scientific Steering Committee and related meetings;
b) Support the Head of the WWR Division with the implementation of the WWRP Implementation Plan for 2024-2027 and the related activities, under the guidance of the Research Board;
c) Lead, coordinate and promote the activities of at least one of the Working Groups of WWRP, in line with the guidance from the WWRP SSC, including collating the inputs from the WG members towards the implementation of the WWRP IP and the organization of related workshops and/or conferences;
d) Lead and promote the activities of at least one of the projects of WWRP, in line with the guidance from the WWRP SSC, including collating the inputs from the Steering Group members towards the implementation of the WWRP IP and the organization of related workshops and/or conferences;
e) Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, as relevant;
f) Contribute, as needed, to design and support the implementation of regular WWRP e-news and news stories for the WMO and WWRP website, including liaising with media and communications contacts, innovatively relating to Early Career Scientists;
g) Support the maintenance of the Research Expert Network for current and new members of our WMO Research Expert Network and related administration;
h) Support and coordinate the work of related consultants in WWRP, for example for the inclusion of Monitoring Evaluation and Learning tools during 2024;
i) Liaise and coordinate with the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and the Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) in the SI Department, as well as other activities as appropriate, ensuring connections with WMO Technical Commissions and Member Services;
j) Carry out other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in environmental sciences, related natural or social science and/or communications. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience
A minimum of two years of combined national and international progressively responsible experience in weather and environment and related activities such as application and communication of physical and social science matters. Experience with the United Nations system would be an advantage.

Other requirements
Knowledge of the UN system, specifically WMO is required, and knowledge of the WWRP programme, experience in working with WWRP experts would be an advantage. Very good communication skills (oral and written).
Proven ability to work both autonomously and as part of an integrated team with colleagues, staff and stakeholders at all levels, internal and external.
Proven ability to organize meetings and events and with good outcomes is required.Experience of working with websites and social media platforms is desirable. Experience of working with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign is desirable. Experience in collating scientific inputs towards reports or planning documents. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit.


Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES

Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 50377

Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 45339 (in addition to the net base salary)
