DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The request is for two interns who will report to the SOFF Secretariat Programme Management Officer and Partnership Officer respectively and will also work in close collaboration with the other members of the SOFF Secretariat team. The period of internship will be from 1 March 2024 to 28 February 2025.

The SOFF Secretariat is hosted by WMO in Geneva and follows WMO regulations and rules with respect to all administrative policies and procedures. It comprises a small team of professional staff and operates under the overall guidance of the Steering Committee and is accountable to it. The SOFF Secretariat is located within the Infrastructure Department of WMO, and the incumbents will perform the following duties:

- Provide support in the preparation of documentation, communication material, and logistical support of SOFF Steering Committee and Advisory Board meetings.
- Work with the SOFF Partnerships Officer in the update of the SOFF Resource Mobilization and Outreach Strategy.
- Support SOFF Global Facilitators in their resource mobilization and advocacy activities.
- Support SOFF engagement with related strategic initiatives such as the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) or Water at the Heart of Climate Action (W@H).
- Support the SOFF Operations team in project management and oversight of the portfolio.
- Support the organization and maintenance of document repositories for SOFF operational documents and databases.
- Analyse data related to SOFF operations and other types of relevant data as needed.
- Any other responsibilities are required by the SOFF Secretariat.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Undergrad or master's degree in the field of environmental and natural resource sciences and management, climate change, international relations, and policy.

Experience
Interest related to climate change, environmental science showing detailed understanding and excellent capacity to conduct research and analysis on scientific, economic, social, and political dimensions of climate change. Knowledge of data collection systems and proficient in Microsoft Excel.

Other requirements
- Presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Proven experience to analyze and interpret data.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and other web-based analytical and communication tools.
- Proven experience in the organization and management of development projects and attention to detail is an asset.


Languages
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of Arabic, French, Spanish, and/or other United Nations official languages would also be an advantage.
