Climate Risk and Early Warning Systems (CREWS) Secretariat

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of the CREWS Secretariat and direct supervision of the CREWS Programme Officer, the senior consultant is expected to deliver the CREWS Annual Report 2024.

The specific tasks include:


1. Develop the content/Document the key results of the CREWS initiative for 2024:

o These would be both quantitative and qualitative results based on available documentation and interviews with CREWS Members and Implementing Partners;

o Describe key highlights of the work of the CREWS initiative in ensuring outreach and advocacy to key stakeholders;

o Draft the annual report's content by liaising with CREWS partners to gather, produce and receive sign-off on quotes, as well as through interviews to develop stories on country and regional projects;

o Coordinate the key messages from the Steering Committee Chair and Heads of the Implementing Partners (WMO, World Bank and UNDRR);


2. Design and layout of the report:

o Manage the production process of the 2024 CREWS annual report in print and online versions;

o Develop graphs on CREWS results, outputs and financial status;

o Select photographs and video clips for inclusion in the report;

o Guide the designer to ensure continuity of the CREWS style in the design of both the print and online versions in PDF of the annual report, provide content for design (text and graphs) and review drafts;

o Ensure proof-reading and language editing as well as on-schedule printing and online release of the report.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Advanced university degree in journalism, international relations, communications or related area.

Experience
At least 10 years of combined national and international progressively responsible experience in public information, communication and journalism. Solid experience in strategic communication, events managements, in the United Nations System or international organizations. Field experience is an advantage.

Other requirements
Experience defining and managing high-profile communication challenges. Ability to undertake effective media outreach programmes. Proven managerial and negotiation skills. Ability to work constructively with a range of internal and external stakeholders. Proven experience in developing communication strategies. Excellent spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to draft communication materials and speeches as well as other documents. Excelllent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Maturity of judgement and good sense of initiative. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and foster team spirit.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of WMO would be an advantage.
