DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of WMO Project Officer, in collaboration with focal points from the DGM and the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology
The role operations lead [DGM1] will be to support delivery of Tasks - T3.4, T4.3, T4.4, and T4.5 and ensure the new project-initiated services in ACACIA are implemented operationally at DGM using appropriate approaches and tools to sustain services beyond the end of the project. This includes:

a) Work with WP3 and WP4 to build a sustainable way to share forecast products across the forecast-value chain;

b) Co-write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to accompany new tools;

c) Through dialogue with WP4, iteratively improve forecast products to better suit the needs of DGM;

d) Engage with the real-time forecasting testbeds during each cyclone season to understand the use and application of new tools and to iteratively improve them;

e) Work alongside [DGM3] to evaluate new forecast products and liaise with [DGM2] to explore best communication of forecast products;

f) Collaborate across DGM to institutionalize new knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Minimum master’s degree in meteorology or related physical science.

Experience
- Experience in operational sub-seasonal to seasonal forecasting.

- Strong background in managing and analysing large datasets is strongly desirable.

- Strong competence in working with Python environment.

- Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.


Other requirements
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.

- Due to the nature of the work, only candidates currently located in Madagascar will be considered.


Languages
Excellent knowledge of English and French ((both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
The consultancy duration is 55 days over a 10 month period, with a total estimated cost of USD 13,200.
