DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The role Applications lead [DGM2] will be to support delivery of Tasks - 1.2, 4.2, 4.4, 4.5. The Applications lead will lead the ACACIA DGM interactions with the CRM and BNGRC at national level and, with Meteorological officer in Sofia region DGM, WP2 and WP1 peer communities, regional level in Sofia.

a) Ensuring CRM has access to all the latest forecasting tools from [DGM1];

b) Working alongside [DGM1], co-develop sub-seasonal advisories and get CRM feedback on usefulness;

c) Maintain and enhance dialogue between DGM and BNGRC and understand their use of sub-seasonal forecast bulletins;

d) Engage with the real-time forecasting testbeds during each cyclone season to understand the use and application of new tools and to iteratively improve them;

e) Discuss findings from [DGM3] with CRM to consider their implications from previous high-impact case studies to evaluate past events and actions;

f) Collaborate across DGM to institutionalize new knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
A minimum of a master’s degree in meteorology, or a closely related physical science.

Experience
- Strong competence in working with Linux and Python environment.

- Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Experience in operational sub-seasonal to seasonal forecasting and managing and analysing large datasets will be strongly desirable

Other requirements
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.

- Due to the nature of the work, only candidates currently located in Madagascar will be considered.


Languages
Excellent knowledge of English and French ((both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
The consultancy duration is 55 days over a 10-month period, with a total estimated cost of USD 13,200.
