DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Scientific Officer, Water Assessment and Capacity Development for Hydrology", the incumbent will work closely with experts from National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) and instructor(s) from WMO Regional Association III and/or Regional Association IV, and will perform the following duties:

1. Co-organize, co-design and facilitate, in collaboration with the National Water Academy (Pune, India), one Distance Learning Course "8th International DL Course in - Basic Hydrologic Sciences for Asian Region (WMO RA II)":
a. Identify from existing WMO e-learnings courses the modules to be integrated in the distance learning course;
b. Develop course structure, quizzes and integration of the new groundwater and rating curves modules in the Basic Hydrologic Sciences for Asian Region course;
c. Co-instructor and facilitate the distance learning course including grading final assignments for approximately 30 international participants;
d. Course summary and grades.

2. Implement the distance learning course "Hydrology Field Technicians for RA III and RA IV" in Spanish.
a. Gather information from the participating NMHSs about topic areas to customize training needs including the evaluation of participants videos;
b. Set-up the Moodle platform following the prioritized topics as well as the lessons learnt from previous courses in the Region .

3. Development and implementation of a distance learning course on "Groundwater monitoring" for RA IV and RA V Islands.
a. Integrate WMO/COMET@ modules and quizzes in WMO Groundwater course;
b. In coordination with NIWA, co-develop and integrate additional exercises/quizzes using examples of groundwater hydrographs from island nations;
c. Assist with registration issues and any pre-course activities.

4. Development and implementation of a distance learning course on "Rating curve" for RA IV and RA V Islands.
a. Develop and implement a Moodle course by integrating WMO/COMET@'s Rating curve module and, import related quizzes into WMO Moodle;
b. In close coordination with NIWA's subject matter expert(s), develop and integrate exercises using examples of rating curves, their creation, interpretation and use;
c. Assist with registration issues and any pre-course activities.

5. Integration of existing groundwater and rating curve modules in the "Basic Hydrological Sciences, Core Topics" autonomous distance learning course.
a. Integration of COMET@'s groundwater monitoring and rating curve modules in the Basic Hydrological Sciences, Core Topics" autonomous distance learning course.
b. Adapt existing quizzes and exercises to the format of the autonomous course.

6. Implement an autonomous Moodle course on "Advanced Topics in Hydraulics and Hydrological Sciences" based on the modules available on WMO Moodle platform.
a. Define objectives and identify material;
b. Revise existing training material (especially those with assignments);
c. Update quizz;
d. Develop and finalize Moodle.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
M.S. in Meteorology, Hydrology or Hydrogeology

Experience
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience in delivering trainings in Hydrology, Meteorology or Hydrogeology.
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience in developing e-learning courses/modules.
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience in designing distance learning courses on operational hydrology.
- At least 5 years of experience using Moodle.
- Work experience with WMO would be an advantage.

Other requirements
Knowledge in editing videos

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of Spanish would be an advantage.
