DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ABOUT THE ROLE


STRENGTHENING CONSTITUENT BODY COORDINATION AND SUPPORT

Enhance coordination and harmonized management of WMO's technical commissions and regional associations, facilitating their effective relationships with Congress and the Executive Council.

Under the general supervision of the Secretary, Governing Bodies Secretariat, and working independently with relevant staff from the Department of Earth System Data and Predictions (ESDP), Department of Science, Services and Capacity Development (SSCD), Regional Coordination Office (RCO), Regional Offices (ROs), and Division of Human Resources and Corporate Services (DHRCS), the Technical Constituent Body Coordinator will be responsible for the following duties:


a) Lead the organization of technical commissions sessions, providing strategic guidance to presidents, developing comprehensive agenda and documentation plans, creating substantive documents and facilitating innovative decision-making processes (adoption of work programmes, establishment of subsidiary bodies and election of officers);


b) Independently manage and coordinate comprehensive support to technical commissions Management Groups and Executive meetings, developing new approaches for officer assistance, meeting preparation, documentation standards and reporting mechanisms;


c) Assure the quality and conformity of departmental contributions to the technical and scientific agendas of Congress and the Executive Council, introducing best practices for technical and scientific content review;


d) In collaboration with the WMO Regional Offices, develop and implement standardized approaches for regional associations sessions, especially with regard to agendas, documentation and connectivity of regional association outcomes with Congress and Executive Council decisions;


e) Lead the development of provisional agendas and prepare high-quality documents for Congress, Executive Council, Bureau, Policy Advisory Committee and Technical Coordination Committee sessions;


f) Ensure systematic follow-up and review mechanisms for constituent body decisions on technical and scientific issues, developing comprehensive reporting frameworks and monitoring systems;


g) Initiate and develop innovative solutions for constituent body coordination challenges, representing the Secretariat in high-level coordination meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Master's degree or equivalent in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, earth sciences, international relations, public administration or a closely related field. A first level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience will be accepted in lieu of a Master's degree.


Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in meteorological sciences, international organization management, conference organization, technical coordination or related fields.

- Strong organizational and coordination professional with experience in meeting management, documentation preparation, and knowledge of international organization procedures.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple departments and with diverse stakeholders in a multicultural environment.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
The position is funded from regular budget.

New appointments on fixed-term contract of one year or more shall be subject to an initial one-year probation period.
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES

Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 84672

Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 75104 (in addition to the net base salary)
