DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Associate Documentation Control Officer of Linguistic Services and Publishing (LSP), Governance Services Department, the incumbent will perform the following duties:


Locate and package physical publications in batches for shipping to an external vendor for digitization.

Track physical publications through the digitization life cycle via the creation of a detailed inventory.

Update metadata for existing records of physical publications in WMO e-Library or create new records for publications that are missing in WMO e-Library, as necessary.

Quality control pdf scans, including OCR (Optical Character Recognition) accuracy.

Conduct research on online digital collections to identify WMO publications that already exist electronically but are missing in WMO e-Library and add them accordingly.

Conduct a control check of WMO e-Library records to identify missing pdfs, low quality scans, broken links, publications that require OCR (Optical Character Recognition), and any other inconsistencies.

Assist the WMO Library Team with other tasks as required, including on-site scanning and bilingual publication alignments.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
University degree or certification in Library Science, archival Studies, Information Science, or related field.

Experience
At least 3 years of professional experience of working with digital and physical archives, libraries and/or records repositories, of which at least 1 year was with an international organization.

Other requirements
Knowledge of library and archival databases and/or management systems;

Knowledge of physical library and archival collections;

Knowledge of metadata standards, creation, and description of digital resources;

Ability to lift around 6 kg.

Languages
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of other official languages of WMO would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
Proposed fee: 5,012 USD per month
