DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall guidance of WIS2 Project Manager the incumbent will perform the following duties related to the WIS 2.0 implementation and the development of the WIS2 in a box software (https://github.com/World-Meteorological-Organization/wis2box ):

(a) Provide technical support to WMO Members in implementing data exchange using WIS 2.0 in support of the transition from GTS/WIS1 to WIS 2.0.

(b) Contribute to the WIS2 in a box development as required by the software development plan.

(c) Contribute to open source development as required by WIS 2.0 implementation.

(d) Contribute to Climate Data Management Systems development and integration with WIS 2.0.

(e) Engage with WMO Members to identify issues impacting WMO data exchange and pro-actively work on implementing solutions to address these issues.

(f) Update documentation of the open source software development within the WIS Section.

(g) Provide training and outreach materials on WIS 2.0 and WMO data formats that are accessible to all WMO Members.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
University degree or equivalent in computer science, or a closely related field.

Experience
Proven experience in:
- Developing applications relating to weather data exchange.

- Open source software used in the WIS2 in a box software: Docker, MinIO, Nginx, Vue.js, Flask, Elasticsearch.

- Packaging and releasing software to a general audience.

- Practical knowledge of encoding and decoding WMO binary formats like BUFR and GRIB2.

- Developing or maintaining software for collecting data from weather observing stations.

Experience in implementing a WIS2 node using WIS2 in a box software would be an advantage.

Other requirements
High sense of integrity, responsibility, and maturity of judgment; ability to work autonomously; excellent communication skills; good level of initiative and creativity; demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage multiple workloads.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES

Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 55163

Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 49647 (in addition to the net base salary)
